In loving memory of Abdul Baseer Sadat, we remember a truly extraordinary soul—a person whose warmth, compassion, and zest for life touched everyone around him. Baseer had a rare gift for bringing joy to others through his humor and light-hearted spirit. His laughter was infectious, and his love for the gym, billiards, football, and travel, to name a few, reflected his boundless energy and enthusiasm for life. Baseer was an exceptional cook, and friends who moved away often said they missed his cooking more than they missed him, simply because his food was that good. He had a unique ability to bring people from different cultures and backgrounds together. One of his closest friends, Qalinle, remarked that he would sometimes see Baseer socializing with people who didn't speak any of the languages he knew (he spoke seven different languages), and this never ceased to amaze him. Qalinle also said, "I'm sure if you dropped him off with one of the uncontacted tribes living in the Amazon or anywhere else, he would find a way to connect and hang out with them. That's a quality most people don’t have."

Our Inspiration

Baseer’s presence was a beacon of positivity and support. He was deeply respected and cherished by all who knew him, always ready to lend a hand or a kind word to those in need. From a young age, his heart was set on making a difference, driven by a profound desire to help others. This passion led him to a medical career, a field through which he could touch lives and bring comfort.

He often spoke about his intention and dream of establishing a hospital or clinic in Afghanistan to provide the people of the country with good and affordable healthcare. Seeing as the country had been dealing with war, poverty, and instability for as long as we can remember, Baseer understood the dire need for good healthcare services in his homeland. He knew that getting a degree in medicine would open many doors of opportunity to help him make this dream a reality.

In September 2023, at the age of 29, Baseer achieved a significant milestone by graduating from Binzhou Medical University in Yantai, China, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine. With immense pride and joy, he returned to his family in Afghanistan, eager to reunite after a long separation.

However, by late December 2023, Baseer began to experience troubling health changes, and by May 2024, his condition prompted him to seek medical advice. In June, he received the devastating diagnosis of Stage 4 colorectal cancer. His journey through this illness was marked by relentless pain, frequent hospital visits, and the emotional toll of his condition. Despite his suffering, Baseer remained a pillar of strength and compassion, more concerned about the well-being of his loved ones than his own struggles.

Tragically, on August 26, 2024, Baseer’s valiant fight against cancer came to an end, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and a dream of providing essential medical care to his community. To honor his memory, his dreams, and his unwavering dedication to helping others, we are establishing a foundation, ensuring that Baseer’s spirit of generosity and care continues to make a difference in the lives of those in need.
